Liriodendron tulipifera is commonly known as tulip poplar. This species prefers to grow as a canopy tree in full sun to part shade. Tulip poplar reaches heights of up to 200 feet tall and can live for hundreds of years! Liriodendron tulipifera is a climax species meaning it can persist in nearly undisturbed old growth here around Southern Appalachia!
This tree species is important for wildlife and timber. Trees can grow with exceptionally straight form and speed!
Young trees must be protected from deer browse. Trees are approximately 1-2 feet tall. Random selection.
Cultivation Guidelines:
Light: Sun for most of the day.
Restricted Range: Prefers moist, rich soils. Amend planting area.
Growing Medium: Native soils.
